Ragi is a prized Indian millet grain known for being a staple across part of India and Nepal. Also called Finger Millet it is rich in Calcium, minerals and slow releasing carbohydrates. It is the standard formula for feeding toddlers. It has also been historically used to control weight gain as well as type 2 Diabetes. With so many benefits it is no wonder it is one of the most widely consumed millets in India.
Ragi millet grass is only grown in India and some parts of Africa. Ragi fields are very common in various parts of the country like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. These places have instilled a healthy system of producing and consuming Ragi in various forms.
Ragi is often consumed as a sweet/spicy porridge (koozh) or soft dough balls (mudde) to be dipped in a curry. Sometimes it is ground with ghee and jaggery for desserts or made into a bhākri style flat roti. In any way Ragi is a vital part of the authentic Indian diet for many.
Our goal is to bring millets like Ragi to the forefront of our diet. We are happy to be part of this movement across India to revive these miracle grains. This series will focus on the goodness of Ragi combined with the legacy of the authentic Indian Diet.

This Teachers Day, let us join PM Modi in extending our love and respect to those who have taught us our first words and love us like their own children. From holding our hand through the difficulties to celebrating our achievements their love is always unconditional. Teachers would never let a student go hungry or eat unhealthy! In our a India the Gurukula system was a way to integrate knowledge of the world with knowledge of the self. We are proud of our Gurus who shape the future generations.
Even during this COVID19 crisis every teacher is focused on showing children the right path. Don't we all love the ones who showed us the first steps of knowledge and cared for our well being? Let us salute them for their kindness and determination.
This teachers day we at Milletcraft wish to achieve a future in which every Indian student is at the peak of their immunity and resistance. Let us overcome this pandemic with the power of knowledge and social distancing.
Evolve and embrace prana in every bite.
