Back ground
Gyan Vigyan Vikas Educational and Social Welfare Foundation (GVVESWF) were founded by Dr Ajay Kumar Saxena in 2009. GVVESWF is a registered Foundation supported by friends and well-wishers. Donations are exempted under 80 G of GOI Income tax.
The primary objectives of GVVESWF are:
To promote scientific knowledge and education among the school going children of the country.
Creating centers of learning away from school
Engage in the activities related to promotion of Science and social welfare of the society.
Akash Gyan Vigyan Kendra(AGVK) has been setup as part of the activity of GVVESWF for night sky viewing during non monsoon months. Children from different part of the city and neighborhood are invited for scientifically oriented programs during these months.
GVVESWF has also been conducting workshops on scientific and technical skill development of children during the summer. There were participants (high school grade) from various schools in Bangalore.
Adding to its activities a program by the name Science Activity and Research School (SARS) has been running. Now this program operates from the AGVK.
Introduction
We believe that whatever is the profession and involvement of work of an individual, science activity and research can be carried out by him/her, if one has a will to do so. Appropriate resources are certainly an important ingredient for this purpose. Early life of Sir C V Raman has been an inspiration in this aspect. Thus, SARS has been proposed as an attempt to create an arena for such scientific work.

SARS will have an approach to trigger out of the box thinking and bring out the inquisitiveness inherent in young minds and to sensitize them more about Mother Nature. This has been the genesis of GVVESWF.
What SARS will do
The plan is to work with School and college going students wanting to pursue Science and engineering as careers.
• SARS is providing a platform for creative science activity to young children in the age group of teens.
• Children at SARS will be provided guidance and help in their projects of interest and they will be given hands on training in handling science experiments ,building instruments, science demonstration models and optical telescopes for own use. They will have an extra opportunity to Night Sky observing through telescopes set up at Akash Gyan Vigyan Kendra at Dodda Gubbi.
• They can also participate in certain specific research projects designed for them.
• SARS will bring children in contact with people of fame in various fields who will be sharing their experiences under “Meet the Achiever program of SARS”.
• All this with the philosophy of science with fun and more importantly the learning away from school will enhance their personality and social commitment.

SARS will have two fold Program as Part I and Part II
Part I – Scientific and technical skill development
This program involves setting up simple scientific experiments and their demonstration. The experiments are designed to bring out fundamental concepts, rational thinking and developing philosophical aptitude of doing experiments.
Part II – Scientific Research program
The specific programs will be worked out by the faculty and senior students together. Considering the present relevance to SARS philosophy the areas of research are Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). IT WILL BE A GROUP ACTIVITY WITH JUNIOR PARTCIPATING AS WELL.
Science writing, astronomical artwork, Outreach projects such as the Hubble Findings, Google Sky, and phone/iPod applications are possible additions.
Provision for economically challenged participants
SARS program is not only targeted towards participants with resources but also will support the economically challenged participants.

Available Infrastructure
The activities of SARS will be supported by GVVESWF and the infrastructure available with the organization which includes
• Office space
• Computer and communication facilities with internet
• Audio visual facility
• An Opto-mechanical workshop
• Faculty by invitation
Membership
The participation is by membership and the membership is open to 9th to 12th class of children. The scientific activity and participation is extraordinarily flexible to the need of students.
Registration and Annual Subscription
SARS will have a onetime registration fee of Rs500/- per member and monthly nominal contribution of Rs 250/- , may be paid in four equal quarterly installments. Funds for other major projects and studies will be arranged through sponsors and possible donations.
To make this program a success your cooperation and support is solicited.
