In their final year thesis at BITS - Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus, Our Directors Joshi and Kaulgud researched the reasons for the death of babies during labor and birth in India. They were shocked to find that 300,000 babies die in India every year because sufficient & effective fetal monitors are not available at the birthing centers. Where available, fetal distress is often missed as issues like skill dependency, subjectivity, high cost, and high infrastructure requirements make existing fetal monitors unviable for Indian contexts. Even more saddening is the fact that with the right monitoring equipment, a majority of these deaths are preventable!

Vibhav & Sumedh set out to build a next-generation fetal monitor - the Fetal Lite, to solve these problems. Medical devices are complex, need to comply with stringent regulatory standards, and face tremendous barriers to entry. Building and scaling a medical device business is a grinding journey full of ups and downs. When our Fetal Lite makes lives easier for healthcare professionals catering to the underserved mothers amid massive resource constraints, and they appreciate our efforts - the journey seems absolutely worth it.
