We still see the trend of colors in new objects. Yes with colors you can set accents but like in all design elements, less is more, and you should have the long term use of your object in mind. To often it has happen that a actual trend like colorful tiles in kitchen or bathrooms became terrible shrill in the next years. Or perhaps some of you can remember the trend of black furniture, which were unpractical and in today's time shocks every new tenant.
