Madhu’s Residence: Play of light in winter solstice and Summer solstice.

Project completed in 2004.
The house is on 17’-0" * 40’-0" site in the heart of South Bengaluru- Basavanagudi with two common walls, and the setback of the neighboring site. The other side faces the road on the west, the only means of light and ventilation.
The entry leads to enclosed verandah and then to double height space which is 3’-6" above road level through a series of layered spaces, which unfolds as you change directions while climbing up the stairs. This double height space, which is shared by living and dining space at different levels, forms the main focus of the house where all other rooms and other spaces look in to. This space which is lit by sky light and the vertical wooden lovers for the controlled movement of air faces the west.
