Bonnie Raitt once mentioned an interesting point: "Solar power is the last energy resource that isn't owned yet - nobody taxes the sun yet".

We can strongly relate this quote to the energy situation in Syria. Huge solar panels have been covering the fields and households in North-West Syria as replacement for diesel generators. North-West Syria has been held by rebels and jihadist forces. This has led to shortage and uncertainty in fuel prices, prompting farmers and hospitals to shift towards electricity generation from solar installation systems.

This has been a widely successful venture operated by residents in North-West Syria that the price per unit of solar electricity is significantly lower and regular than the state provided electricity.

We can learn form the above mentioned points that photovoltaic systems offer a surplus, constant (uniform) form of energy and are location independent (Sunlight falls uniformly on all regions of Syria contrary to the prices of diesel in those regions).
