October 1, 2024 – The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of ZHCET, AMU, Hosts Insightful Webinar on Sustainable Practices in the Food Industry
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of ZHCET, Aligarh Muslim University, successfully hosted an engaging webinar on sustainable practices in the food industry and agri-food waste management on October 1, 2024. The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur'an by Mohd. Rihan Ali, Coordinator of the cell, followed by a formal introduction of the guest speaker by the host, Muhammad Kaif Siddiqui.
The session was led by Akash Sharma, founder of Food Tech Society, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the importance of sustainability in the food sector. He covered key areas such as what sustainability means, why it is crucial in today's world, and how the food industry can adopt sustainable practices. Akash brought attention to startling data, revealing that the food industry contributes to 33% of global greenhouse gas emissions and that 1/3rd of food produced worldwide is wasted before it even reaches consumers. He also discussed significant waste dumping sites, such as those in Ghaziabad landfills, Meghalaya, the Pacific Ocean waste dumps is as big as the total area of Sri Lanka.
The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, where participants actively engaged with the speaker. The event wrapped up with a formal vote of thanks from Mohd. Rihan Ali. The program was skillfully managed by Mohd. Azhan and Ms. Suzain, Joint Coordinator and Secretary of the cell, respectively.
