योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः ।
yogaścittavṛttinirodhaḥ ।

Yoga is restraining the mind-stuff (Chitta) from taking various forms (Vrittis).​

हिंदी अनुवाद:
चित्त की वृत्तियों के निरोध का नाम योग है ।

शैले शैले न माणिक्यं मौक्तिकं न गजे गजे।
साधवो न हि सर्वत्र चन्दनं न वने वने ॥

न प्रत्येक पर्वत पर मणि-माणिक्य ही प्राप्त होते हैं न प्रत्येक हाथी के मस्तक से मुक्ता-मणि प्राप्त होती है । संसार में मनुष्यों की कमी न होने पर भी साधु पुरुष नहीं मिलते । इसी प्रकार सभी वनों में चन्दन के वृक्ष उपलब्ध नही होते ।

Neither Mani-Manikya (precious stones) is found on every mountain nor is the Mukta-mani (Perl stone) obtained from the head of every elephant. Philanthropists are not very common among humans, sandalwood is not found in all the forests.
Moral: The good things are uncommon.
