The JNMCH Nursing Fraternity at Aligarh Muslim University celebrated International Nurses Day with a commemorative function at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College auditorium. Prof. Mohd Wasim Ali, the AMU Proctor, graced the event as the chief guest, acknowledging the indispensable role nurses play in hospital management.

Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Principal of J.N. Medical College, lauded the nurses for their crucial contributions to patient care. Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean of Students Welfare, and Prof. Haris Manzoor Khan, former Medical Superintendent, expressed appreciation for nurses' selfless dedication.

Prof. Farha Azmi, Principal of the College of Nursing, highlighted the evolving nature of the nursing profession, emphasizing the importance of embracing innovation and technological advancements in patient management.

Prof. Waseem Rizvi, Medical Superintendent of JNMCH, also shared insights during the occasion. Guests of honor, including Mrs. Shahana Parveen, Mrs. Hooma Ruhi, Mrs. Meena Devi, Mrs. Radha Rani Verma, and Mrs. Shahjahan, were warmly welcomed.

The event featured a vibrant cultural program presented by nurses and nursing students, showcasing talents through singing and poetry recitations. Additionally, winners of various competitive events, including Mirza Shajad Baig, Incharge of MICU, were felicitated with prizes, recognizing their outstanding contributions.

The celebration served as a platform to honor and appreciate the dedication and hard work of nurses, highlighting their pivotal role in healthcare delivery.

The Department of English at Aligarh Muslim University commenced a three-day International Conference, sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi, titled “Appropriate Teaching Methodologies in Interdisciplinary Contexts: Mapping Sociolinguistic Diversity”. This initiative aims to foster inclusivity, sustainability, and social justice, marking the sixth consecutive conference organized by the department.

Guest of Honour Prof. Shobha Satyanath, Former Professor at the University of Delhi, delved into sociolinguistic studies, emphasizing the significance of speech communities, language variation, and grammatical issues. She underscored that sociolinguistics is integral to everyday speech and communication, not just confined to the English language.

In his welcome address, Prof. Mohammad Asim Siddiqui highlighted the historical evolution of English language teaching at AMU, tracing its roots back to the 1950s. He emphasized the department's commitment to promoting innovative teaching methodologies and discussed the conference theme.

Conference Convener Prof. Raashid Nehal outlined the conference's socially relevant and inclusive objectives, stressing the importance of learner empowerment and equitable teaching opportunities.

Mr. Tausifur Rahman, Co-Founder of Stepping Cloud Consulting Private Ltd, delineated the phases of learning, advocating for the integration of technology in language education. He introduced the “Urdu for all” application, aimed at elevating Urdu language education.

Prof. Arif Nazir, Dean of Faculty of Arts at AMU, praised the department for organizing a conference of international significance, emphasizing the indispensability of literary studies and translation in bridging language and culture.

Keynote speaker Prof. Suresh Canagarajah from Penn State University, USA, emphasized the contextual teaching of English, highlighting creolization and communicative practices. He also addressed colonial language ideologies, referencing Macaulay's minutes.

The inaugural session concluded with Prof. Raashid Nehal extending gratitude, conducted by Dr. Zainab Sarwat.

Prof. Manzoor Ahmad from ZVM Unani Medical College Pune gave a lecture at Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, AMU on "Intra/Post-Operative Complications in Common Surgical Procedures." He discussed minor and major issues during surgeries, offering insights on prevention and management. Pictures and videos were used for clarity.
