🐰 Mastering the Rabbit Spelling Rule
Did you know there’s a simple pattern behind words like kitten, happy, letter, rabbit, and muffin?
✅ If a word has: • 2 syllables
• A short first vowel sound
• One consonant in the middle
➡️ We usually double the consonant.
Examples: ✔️ rabbit
✔️ kitten
✔️ happy
✔️ letter
But every good rule has a few exceptions!
🔍 Words like camel, planet, model, visit, and boxer don't follow the Rabbit Rule for special linguistic reasons. Understanding these exceptions helps children become confident readers and accurate spellers instead of relying on memorisation alone.
At Preethis Pathshala, we teach children the logic behind spelling, making reading and writing easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
💡 Ask your child: "Why is it kitten but not kiten?" The answer might surprise you!
