The goal with tacks is to accelerate coming out of the tack and get back up to speed as quickly as you can. So if you’re focused on improving your performance, how do you measure the quality of your tacks? A tack can feel good, but if you’re going to make the marginal gains that take you from 5th to 1st place, you need more information than just feel. You need a tool that lets you clearly identify which tacks were in fact the most efficient, which weren’t, and then you want to study what you were doing during those tacks to make them different. The tack analyzer tool lets you clearly see how much distance you gained upwind in your tacks (we call this maneuver distance). The longer the distance the more efficient and effective the tack. Because it’s all about the VMG, baby.
