Join us at our Pod After School!

Our Pod After School offers a unique alternative to "Tsaharon." Held from Sunday to Thursday until 17:00 hrs, our program takes place in a private apartment with yard in the Yehuda Maccabi neighborhood. Designed for 1st to 4th graders, we emphasize project-based learning, integrating literacy, math, sciences, and art through various projects led by the children.

The program is ran by me, Catalina Wigdorsky, an experienced teacher in homeschool programs and educational centers in Israel.

Due to some families relocating abroad (because of the war), we have a few open spots. Contact me for more information!

Literacy in the early years!

โœ”๏ธ The process of learning how to read and write does not only involve "decoding" letters. The focus of literacy learning is to understand the importance of developing reading, writing, and oral skills to be able to receive and send a clear message.

๐Ÿ’กWhy is literacy development important in the early years?

Early literacy is important because it helps children develop a love of reading and writing, which will be the key to understanding the world, expressing their ideas, and studying the areas of their interest.

๐Ÿ’กHow can we develop literacy in the early years?

Reading stories and giving them opportunities to read by themselves by looking at the pictures and manipulating books to increase awareness of books and print.

Playing and hearing the sounds of the letters to develop phonological awareness.

Asking questions about the stories to encourage reading comprehension.

Giving them opportunities to create messages by writing letters with signs, drawings, and letters.

Project-Based Activities๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ

โœ”๏ธIn these kinds of activities, the knowledge comes from the childrenโ€™s interests.

โœ”๏ธWe create something together based on their plays, ideas, preferences, questions, and needs.

โœ”๏ธLearning is more meaningful through real-life situations. In these situations, children have the need and interest to do something, so learning comes naturally.

โญ๏ธ First, we observe the children. What do they like to play? How do they play?

โญ๏ธ We identify the interest that is emerging through play.

โญ๏ธ We propose a project and work on the topic of interest in a holistic way.

๐Ÿ’ก During the process, we can combine literacy, math, art, science, social-emotional skills, and more. Children learn from the need to use those skills in projects that are proposed by them.

๐Ÿ’•โ€Learning is created by everyone.โ€
