Your first connotation was probably not of the organ, but of the much-used emoji as a symbol of love.
The origin of this shape is not entirely clear, some argue that it’s a continuous distortion of the shape over the years, back when medicine was not as advanced, and most people did not know what a heart really looked like, so simply copied from each other. The source of emotion in the heart generally comes from the bible, where it was assumed that the entire essence and soul of man is in his heart: 'Behold, I have given you a wise and prudent heart’. The first use of the heart as a general universal symbol of love was only in 1977, when it appeared in the very well-known publication of Milton Glazer I ❤ NY. The heart entered our daily life as an emoji for the first time in 1999 by a company called ‘NTT DoCoMo’ and the rest is history.
