This week, we spotlight John Adams, a lawyer, diplomat, and America's second President. Before independence became popular, Adams was already speaking out against British rule and championing the rights of the American colonies. He played a key role in advancing the Declaration of Independence and helped secure international support for the new nation during the Revolutionary War.
Known for his commitment to the rule of law, Adams believed that principles should come before popularity. As President, he guided the young republic through international tensions and helped establish the tradition of the peaceful transfer of power.

Through academic study and professional development with U.S. counterparts, Humphrey Fellows will join a growing global network dedicated to promoting human rights and freedoms, ensuring sustainable lands, and developing thriving communities.
