The following is a beautiful illustration by the Hedge Laying Association Of Ireland showing the importance of hedgerows in preventing soil erosion and reducing storm water runoff.

Trees are an especially important component of hedgerows as their deeper root systems increase the absorption of storm water releasing it slowly later. 🌿🌳🌧 Fallen leaves, blossoms and other tree residue also nourish the soil enhancing soil quality. πŸ‚

This is in addition to the vital habitat they provide for our rapidly diminishing birds, wildlife, insects and pollinators. πŸŒΏπŸ¦‹πŸŒ³πŸ¦πŸŒ³πŸ¦”πŸŒΏ

Our hedgerows are a national treasure and need to be protected as such.
