🥾 Fisherman’s Way Walking Trail 🌊⛰️

We are thrilled to share a massive update on a project that has been a major priority for our area: work has officially commenced on the trail at Kildermot!

When finished, the Fisherman’s Way walking trail will be a truly spectacular route, taking walkers all the way from the beautiful Ballymoney coast, up over Tara Hill, and back down again to enjoy some of the most breathtaking views our area has to offer. 🌅

🚧 What’s Happening Right Now?

Our main contractor, Paddy McGee, and his team are currently hard at work installing essential drainage. This crucial step allows the road to be widened so the new walking path can be safely installed on the residents' side of the road.

Once this specific stretch is wrapped up, we will be at 90% completion for this entire ambitious project! From there, we will move straight into getting the trail officially certified with Sport Ireland.

🤝 It Takes a Community (and a lot of teamwork!)

Bringing this trail to life has been a massive community effort. It was identified as a priority project in our Local Area Plan 2022–27, but getting it off the ground wasn’t easy:

● Our Community: It took an incredible amount of support and dedication from local residents and landowners just to get the complex grant applications finalised.
● Wexford County Council: A huge shout-out to the staff at Wexford County Council, who put in trojan work across multiple applications before we finally secured approval!

💰 Funding

This project represents a total investment of circa €270,000. We want to extend a massive thank you to our lead organisations, Tara Hill Community Development Association (THCDA) and Ballymoney Kildermot Development Association (BKDA), alongside our incredible funding partners who made this financial reality possible:

● ORIS (Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme): Over €227,000 in vital grant funding
● Gorey-Kilmuckridge Municipal District Council
● Wexford County Council
● Wexford Walking Trails
● Tara Hill Community Development Association CLG
● Ballymoney Kildermot Development Association

📅 When can we walk it?

Barring any major delays, we are aiming for full completion by August / September! 🍂
