We are delighted to share that internationally renowned Finnish environmental sculptor Jaakko Pernu will create a major new permanent artwork in Geashill this September.

As part of Ireland's celebrations of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, Pernu will undertake a two-week residency in Geashill's historic Glebe Walk, creating a large-scale sculpture from locally sourced timber.

Visitors will have the unique opportunity to watch a world-class artist at work as the sculpture takes shape, while enjoying a programme of artist talks, music, school visits, guided tours and the public unveiling of the finished artwork.

Bringing together international contemporary art, local heritage, landscape and community, this special residency will celebrate cultural connections between Ireland and Finland while placing Geashill firmly on the international arts map.

What Makes A Man: Spoken Word & Music in Lloyd Town Park on 19 June

Offaly County Council is delighted to present What Makes a Man, a free, open air event in Lloyd Town Park on Friday 19 June, from 4pm to 5.30pm.

This special event celebrates creativity, community and the voices of young men in Offaly, featuring original spoken word performances developed by participants from Tullamore Youth Project alongside guest artists Leon Dunne, Flynn Johnson and the Youthwork Midlands Choir.

Developed through a series of workshops exploring identity, masculinity, confidence and connection, these performances are honest, powerful and often uplifting, creating space for expression and shared experience. Presented as part of Men’s Health Week (15–21 June), the event highlights the importance of creativity and conversation in supporting wellbeing. Everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy the performances and support this inspiring showcase in park.
