🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Mayo Community Games Athletics County Finals 2026 – Thank You! 🏅

What a fantastic day of athletics we enjoyed at the Mayo Community Games Track & Field County Championships in Claremorris on Sunday, 14th June 2026.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Geraldine Joyce and Sue-Ellen Griffith for their unwavering dedication, commitment, and leadership in coordinating this event year after year. Their tireless work behind the scenes provides young athletes from across Mayo with the opportunity to compete, develop their skills, and create lasting memories.

A special word of thanks also to the Mayo Community Games committee members whose support and hard work in the days leading up to the event, and on the day itself, helped ensure another successful and enjoyable championship for all involved. 👏🏅🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The day began with a particularly touching moment as athletes, volunteers, coaches, officials and spectators observed a minute's silence in memory of the late Berni Kilboyle from the Carra Area. The respect and dignity shown by everyone present reflected the high regard and affection in which Berni was held throughout the Community Games across Mayo. Our thoughts remain with Berni's family, friends and all in Carra Community Games.

Thank you to Ruth Donnelly (Carra) and Isabelle Orme (Moygawagh) who proudly delivered the Community Games Pledge in Irish and English during the opening ceremony.
A special word of appreciation also goes to Sheila Duggan, whose wonderful piping added a memorable and fitting atmosphere to the occasion.

Thank you also to all the children who participated, representing their areas with great enthusiasm and determination. Whether you stood on the podium or not, your effort and participation are what Community Games is all about.

Finally, we would like to thank the volunteers from every corner of the county who gave their time on the day. From registration and marshalling to measuring, officiating and helping events run smoothly, your contribution was invaluable. This championship simply would not be possible without the support of our volunteers.

A wonderful night of entertainment back in May at the Mayo county culture night in Balla. It was a major success with our highest level of participation in many years.

As hundreds of children are all geared up and excited , looking forward to the County Athletic Finals on Sunday, I thought I would give a heads up to Areas, coaches and parents as to what happens after Sunday.

The First Place County Athletic Track Winner and County Athletic Field and Relays will go straight through to the National Finals of Athletic Track, Field and Relays which takes place SETU Sports Complex, Carlow on 23rd,/24th August 2025

The 2nd and 3rd Place Winners at County Level winners will compete at the REGIONAL FINALS which will be held on 18th July in TUS Athlone.
