Took this photo a while back when we had visitors to County Mayo.

We meet a local in the car park who told us about it's history. It was once a part of the mainlined until the 1300s a violent storm pulled it away.

He told us that people actually lived on top of the stack until the 1600s. A helicopter of archeologists landed on it in the 80s and found remains of stone houses, cultivation ridges and stones for grinding grains.

Wild rabbits still live on top of Dún Briste today. They are believed to be descendants of the rabbits that were stranded when the sea stack was torn away from the mainland over 600 years ago.
