Teerbeg 10th of August 2024. The final chapter.
If this field could talk it could tell you many a story from the last ten years. Home of the local Hurling/Camogie Club of Laochra Og all those years. Many a boy and girl had their first introduction to Hurling/Camogie here . They learned the basic skills of the game watched and encouraged by their coaches and parents. Coaches too many whom are parents with various levels of experience took their first coaching session here. Thanks to Mary Kelleher for manys and introduction. As the years went and the club got bigger boys and girls came from all four parishes and further beyond to try out our National game. Matches were organised the field overflowing with cars and summer blitzs thanks to Cathrach Keane brought many a person to the ground. Cork legends Reina Buckley, Breige Corkery, Brid Stack, Shane Kingston, Alan Cadogan, Shane McGrath of Tipp to name a few came and trained our boys and Girls. A visit from Martin Fogarty National Hurling Development Manager gave us an opportunity to show our work and explain our involvement in the local communities. Mary O Connor Director of Camogie Development helped guide us when starting up Camogie for the first time. We had many a great evening of contest and celebrations with internal blitzs and Poc Fadas. We celebrated when Roisin Murphy and Ava O Connell won National Blitzs with Cork U14s returning taking home a National Camogie Cup. Huge achievement from our girls. There is those we lost over the years and will never be forgotten too. Katrina I mention spent many an evening at Teerbeg supervising and helping children at training a place she always loved. Everyone that's been to Teerbeg have their own memories, I have just mentioned a few. The gate now has been closed for the last time from Laochra Ogs point of view.
Our greatest thanks and appreciation is to Michael and Nora McCarthy for giving us the use of this beautiful field. We can never thank them enough. Con O Leary too needs a special mention and thank you. He spent many an hour cutting Teerbeg on his tractor knowing every blade of grass up there with the help of Derry. The cabin too had many a repairs to a leaky roof and only for Michael and Pats fine carpentry work it certainly would not have been standing for todays last day too.
The final look before leaving......... 10/08/2024
