Strong communities are built one relationship at a time.

In this third video from the Ballyhoura Breakthrough Pilot series, residents, young people and local partners share how investing in trusted community spaces creates opportunities for people to connect, learn and grow together.

Through children's activities, family programmes and everyday moments of connection, these spaces help build confidence, strengthen relationships and foster a sense of belonging.

As part of the CITICESS project, the Ballyhoura Breakthrough Pilot is exploring how community-led, citizen-centred approaches can support stronger, more resilient communities.

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€ A new chapter for community health, wellbeing and connection has begun in Kilmallock.

We were delighted to officially launch the Kilmallock Community Sports Hub at the People's Hall as part of the Community Connections event during Men's Health Week.

Delivered through a partnership between Ballyhoura Development and Limerick Sports Partnership, with support from the Dormant Accounts Fund, the Sports Hub will create more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to become active, improve their wellbeing, build friendships and strengthen community connections.

The launch brought together local residents, community organisations and service providers, showcasing the power of partnership in creating healthier, more inclusive communities. From inclusive sports activities and healthy food demonstrations to health checks, wellbeing information and inspiring conversations, the event highlighted the wide range of supports available across the region.

A sincere thank you to everyone who helped make the launch such a success, including our partners, exhibitors, volunteers and guest speaker Dessie Fitzgerald, whose powerful message reminded us that communities are built through connection, support and participation.

The first regular activity is already underway, with the Kilmallock Walking Group meeting every Wednesday at 11:00am outside Kilmallock Library. Everyone is welcome.

This initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, supporting:
βœ… SDG 3 – Good Health & Wellbeing
βœ… SDG 4 – Quality Education
βœ… SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
βœ… SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

🌿 Supporting the people behind our farms.

We were delighted to officially launch the Ballyhoura Farmers Health & Wellbeing Network at the beautiful Corderry Farm as part of the Farm Forward – Connecting Generations and Farming for the Future European Innovation Partnership (EIP), supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The Network has been developed to support farmers, members of farming families, retired farmers, those considering retirement, and anyone experiencing isolation by creating opportunities for connection, conversation and practical wellbeing support.

The event was officially launched by Cllr Tommy O'Sullivan and Cllr Deirdre O'Brien, deputising on behalf of the Mayors of Limerick City and County Council and Cork County Council.

A very special thank you to John and Ailish Ivory for so generously hosting the launch at their wonderful seventh-generation Corderry Farm holiday cottage. We are incredibly grateful for your warm hospitality, for sharing your family's farming story, and for giving everyone the opportunity to experience such a special place. The traditional horse logging demonstration was a fantastic way to conclude the event and celebrate the rich heritage of Irish farming.

Over the coming months, the Network will deliver Walk & Talk sessions, wellbeing events, health information, workshops and opportunities for farmers to connect, learn and support one another.
