A blast from my past.

Back in 1986, I worked for Manpower in Dublin and even then, they were far ahead of their time. I joined as a temp, moved in-house, and went on to spend 10 years progressing through the organisation. Along the way, I made lifelong friends across Ireland and the UK, developed invaluable skills, and benefited from training that was truly second to none.

Manpower looked after people properly. Temps received paid holidays and sick pay — something that was genuinely unique in 1986. Permanent staff were well paid, had pensions, extra holidays, and long-service bonuses. Because of that stability, I was able to buy my first home at just 24 years old.

Those years set me on a lifelong journey of customer care, sales, and a genuine love for recruitment and business. Forty years later, that love is still very much alive.

While tidying my home office recently, I came across a little gem from those days — a Manpower Overdrive leather pouch with shoe polish and brushes. Turning up for work “suited and booted,” as the saying goes, really meant something back then.

Manpower was also brilliant at merchandise, and Overdrive — their driving division — was leading the way in supplying top-quality temp drivers, keeping trucks on the road nationwide. During the lean times of the late ’80s, these highly rated temp roles kept families going.

This year, CSC Partners celebrates 10 years in business. Taking that leap of faith was made far easier because I had such a solid foundation in recruitment best practice and business from my early days at Manpower — something I’ll always be grateful for.
