Mondello Park June 7th - 9th 2019

Friday
After a disastrous test session in Bishopscourt for me last month, the championship moved down to Mondello Park for the anti-clockwise race.
After spending the previous few weeks rebuilding the engine, I was hopeful that the car would be on the pace and after two test sessions I was right. The car was running well.

Saturday
Because we were not scheduled to qualify or race until Sunday I spent the day in the garage working on my set up and making some final adjustments to the car.

Sunday
Qualifying - Our qualifying session was early in the morning and the conditions were perfect. It was clear from the first lap that the car was running well. I gradually built up speed and I managed to put in two lap times good enough for pole position in both races.

Race 1 - Conditions were perfect for Race 1 and starting from pole I had the inside run for the first corner. Philip Jones tried going around the outside but I managed to hold him off.
I worked hard for the first few laps to try to pull a gap but Jones was always in my mirrors.
With about five laps to go I noticed that Jones wasn't there so I eased off and crossed the line in 1st place.

Race 2 - Shortly before Race 2 the weather took a turn and it lashed. This lead to frantic discussions about using wets or slicks. In the end we went for slicks as the track seemed to be drying out quite well.
Again I lined up on pole. I got a good jump when the lights went out but hit a wet patch of track which resulted in excessive wheel spin. I still managed to get to the first corner in the lead. Once I pulled out a gap, I was happy to get the car home in one piece so I eased off, again crossing the line in 1st place.

So with 2 wins under our belt we're looking forward to heading to Kirkistown next month for rounds 5&6 of the Irish Supercar Championship Powered By Pirelli.

A massive thanks to Robbie Parks for all your help over the last few weeks.
Thanks to Neil McMullen for the use of the garage.
Thanks to Alan for the air filter.
Thanks to Alan Watkins for helping out on Saturday.
And thanks to my apprentice mechanic and number one supporter Liv for all your help with the spanners!
