Three State
A member asked Mark recently - will this actually help my golf?
Short answer: yes.
Strength training doesn’t need to look like your sport to benefit it. More force, more power, better club head speed, lower injury risk. The basics done well carry over to everything.
You don’t need sport-specific exercises to see sport-specific results!

Why there are no mirrors at Three State.
We get asked about this regularly. Most gyms are covered in them but we went the other way.
Part of it is practical - we're here coaching you. Watching your movement, giving you feedback, making sure you're doing things in the best way for you. We don't believe you need a mirror for that.
But the bigger reasons are less technical. Gyms can already feel intimidating, and mirrors can add to that. We also know that negative body image is really common, and that it has health consequences. We didn't want to create an environment that risks making that worse.
We want people to feel things rather than watch themselves. Where do you feel that exercise? Is it getting easier? Are you moving better than you were six weeks ago?
A small decision but these small decisions are what makes the culture here.

Honestly, we didn't put the sauna and cold plunge in for the health benefits.
Don't get us wrong, if you get them, brilliant. But that's not why it's here.
We have it because life is busy and we rarely do anything purely for ourselves. The sauna in particular is just a really nice thing to do for yourself.
The other reason is community. Some of the best chats at Three State happen in there after sessions. If those walls could talk it would be quite a story.
Two reasons. That's it. The wellness industry can keep the rest!

There has never been more nutrition information available and yet somehow most people have never been more uncertain about what to eat.
We find ourselves telling more and more people the same thing - reduce your sources, find one qualified voice, give their guidance some time, and definitely to stop treating every new piece of content as a reason to start again.
A registered dietitian can be worth seeking out as the post mentions.
Something we are really proud of at Three State is the culture we have built around food, exercise, and how people relate to themselves. It doesn't happen overnight but it is one of the most rewarding things to be part of.
If you want to know how we approach nutrition as part of training here, feel free to reach out.
The toughest challenge for us yet...(well, maybe just for some of us).
Coach delivering running tips from a treadmill. Multitasking at its finest!
The advice is worth paying attention to though - if you've ever felt like you're putting the work in but going nowhere with your running, the problem is could be the goal, and maybe not the effort.
The most effective goals are specific, measurable, realistic to your actual level and ime-bound. They also tend to be built around everything else in your life - sleep, nutrition, recovery and how many sessions you can genuinely commit to each week.
Before she joined Three State, Pauline saw gyms as places for other people. Now she books in advance, shows up consistently, works hard, and is always open to trying something new. It's really just become part of her life!
There are a lot of great moments from this testimonial that we'll be sharing over the coming weeks, but we just wanted to say thank you Pauline. We're so glad you're here.

Three things worth knowing about muscle and ageing.
We start losing muscle mass from around our 40s - and strength declines even faster than that. Resistance training is the most effective tool we have for slowing that process down. And it is never too late to start!
The biggest gains from exercise don't happen when you go from good to great. They happen when you go from nothing to something.
The evidence on this is pretty clear. The jump from sedentary to even a little bit of movement is where most of the health benefit lives.
So while we've put a lot of work into building something we're really proud of here - the environment, the coaching, the community - we are aware it might not be the right fit for everyone right now.
But don't wait for the perfect gym. Don't wait for the perfect plan. Don't wait until life slows down.
Just start doing something. A walk. Taking the stairs. Yoga. Pilates. Golf. Whatever it is.
Anything beats nothing, by a bigger margin than what is commonly portrayed.
