In Deep Trouble: The Trepça Mine
Written by LINA Writing Award 2026 recipients Gjiltinë Isufi and Fiachra McCarthy, In Deep Trouble will be published later this year through a partnership between IAF and DPR-barcelona.
The book uncovers an underground working mine in Kosovo through workers’ stories. Narratives of lived experiences and additional on-site research through interviews, drawing and photography informed Isufi and McCarthy’s creative process.
In the authors' words:
"Between a mythological hell and a space for social upheaval, the subterranean has long held its status as a symbol of the uncanny. The mine, in particular, remains caught between accommodating practices of exploitation and hosting proletarian resistance. The Trepça Mine in Kosovo, still active today, presents a laboratory of such spatial, socio-political, and environmental struggles. In Deep Trouble descends 850 meters underground to encounter the crowded corridors of miners’ strikes, lunch breaks in extreme microclimates, and mineral bodies which make their way above ground to fuel distant circuits."

We were blown away by the Bog Bothy’s warm reception in Milltownpass, Co. Westmeath, thanks to the dedication, creativity and boundless energy of the Milltownpass Tidy Towns team and local community, who put on eight jam-packed weeks of community-led activities!
As the Bothy's time in Milltownpass came to a close, here’s what some of the participants had to say.
The Bothy has now been installed at Cornafulla, Co. Roscommon, where it will be open to the public from this weekend through to 9 August.

Architects in Schools: Call for Architects 2026–27

Architects and Architecture graduates, inspire the next generation by guiding collaborative architecture workshops in schools in your area!
Architects in Schools is the IAF’s flagship youth programme, running in 50 schools all over Ireland every year.
The programme empowers TY students to look at their local built environment differently, to ask questions and to imagine new design solutions to shape the future with purpose and vision.
We asked some of the architects who have participated about their experience and why architects should apply for this (paid) opportunity.
Architects based in these counties are particularly encouraged to apply, to meet demand from schools:
Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Longford, Tipperary, Wexford and Wicklow.

Looking forward to the 's next stop, at Cornafulla Micro Reserve, opening this weekend. If you live locally, do drop in!
The Bothy will be available for community use until 9 August, with a full public programme shaping up, organised by the Micro Reserve team.
We’re delighted to invite you to the opening of the Bog Bothy at Cornafulla Bog on Saturday 11 July, from 2–4pm.
The afternoon will include music by Bernard and Patrice Coyle and poetry readings by Jackie Gorman and Tadhg Carey, who will together mark the official opening of the Bog Bothy. There will also be refreshments and time to explore the Bothy and the bog.
The opening begins a month-long community programme of walks, talks, workshops and discussions, running until 9 August. We hope you will join us for the opening and return for some of the events that follow.

The nearest Eircode for navigation is N37 FF10.
From Athlone, take the old Ballinasloe Road / Galway Road to Michael Kenny Car Sales, N37 X9A2. Turn onto the L2036 towards Creggan and continue for approximately six minutes. At the T-junction, keep right and remain on the L2036. The entrance will be marked.
If the weather is wet during any of our events, please wear wellies and waterproof clothing if you plan to walk on the bog.
