Distractions are everywhere these days and we are bombarded with screens and noise 24/7. If you walk down the street now most people are looking at their phones. People are uncomfortable sitting with their own thoughts and have lost the ability to be fully present in a moment.
Sadly, this is having an effect on relationships and real human connection is suffering.
Technology is great and I’m as guilty as anyone at getting lost down a rabbit hole of rubbish. But if we ask ourselves honestly, of the numerous times we pick up our phone throughout a day, how many are for something substantial and how many are just force of habit to check social media?
Small changes can make a big difference. Introducing a cut off time for phone use in the evening can help massively. Or when in company and you get the urge to check your phone ask yourself, “Is there anything I really need to look at to take me out of this moment or is this just habit?”.
You’ll normally find that the answer is no!
