Vision Ireland
27/06/2026
An Coimisiún Toghcháin has recommended that election posters should continue to play a role in Irish elections, but with stronger enforcement of existing rules. Vision Ireland welcomes the Commission's recognition of the public health risks which current postering practices pose.
However, we believe the recommendations do not go far enough.
During the Commission’s consultation on postering, only 6% of public submissions were positive. For the 296,000 people in Ireland experiencing some form of vision impairment, there are significant safety risks when posters are placed below the regulation height.
Vision Ireland continues to advocate for a designated election poster area in each local authority, in line with practice across much of Europe.
