Scouting Ireland is incredibly proud of the young people from 5th Port Dollymount Sea Scout Group who assisted in the rescue of a swimmer in difficulty at Dollymount Beach on Sunday.

Through their training, teamwork and leadership, the scouts acted quickly and calmly to bring the swimmer safely to shore.

This is a great example of the skills and confidence young people develop through Scouting Ireland’s SAILS Framework, developing seamanship and decision-making skills that they carry with them throughout life.

Credit to the scouts and their volunteer leaders for putting that training into practice when it really mattered.

Well done to all involved!

Four teenagers from 5th Port Dollymount Sea Scouts in north Dublin saved a man stricken in the water on Sunday afternoon.

A man came running up the beach from the nearby wooden bridge shouting to the scouts, who were taking their rowing boat out of the water at the back of their den on Bull Island, that someone was trapped under the bridge and was at risk of being swept out to sea.

The scouts quickly relaunched a skiff and Aoibheann Conlon (17), Laura Daly (17) and brothers Oisín and Gavin Weadick (both 16) rowed to the scene of the emergency.
