A quick update on what I've been working on behind the scenes...

You may have noticed I haven't posted much new music over the last couple of weeks. That's because I've been undertaking one of the biggest upgrades the site has ever had.

I've completely rebuilt and migrated the backend to a newer, faster server. While most users won't notice many visible changes right away, this upgrade lays the foundation for a huge number of features that simply weren't possible with the old system.

The biggest improvement so far is search.

Previously, every search had to work its way through over 80,000 mixes in the database, which could take up to a minute to return results. The new search system is dramatically faster and now returns results almost instantly. Whether you're looking for something specific like "Sasha 1997" or "Ben Klock 2012", finding mixes is now quicker and easier than ever.

There are still a few minor issues to iron out following the migration, but these are mostly small workarounds and quality-of-life fixes. Everything should be fully tidied up over the next week or two.

More importantly, this new backend opens the door for a number of long-awaited features, including:

• User accounts and login functionality
• Favourites and saved collections
• A smoother audio player experience while browsing the site
• Improved mix and artist pages
• Better search and discovery tools
• Enhanced SEO and visibility to help more people discover the archive

Over the last few years I've deliberately kept promotion of the site fairly limited. One of the main reasons is that the archive has grown to a size where hosting and bandwidth are becoming significant challenges.

As many of you know, the long-term goal has always been simple: preserve these mixes and keep them available for as long as possible.

To achieve that, I'm now exploring the process of licensing the archive properly and operating it as legitimately as possible. Based on my research, licensing alone could cost between €5,000 and €10,000 per year, before factoring in the additional hosting infrastructure needed to support future growth.

The archive currently contains over 80,000 mixes, with another 200,000+ waiting to be processed and added in the future.

This is where Patreon comes in.

I've never pushed Patreon very hard and, if I'm honest, I've never offered enough incentive for people to subscribe. That's going to change.

As the new user account system rolls out, registered supporters will gain access to additional features and benefits. Some newly added content will be reserved for logged-in users, while the majority of the archive will remain freely accessible as it always has been.

Additional supporter features will be introduced over time as the platform evolves.

This isn't a direction I originally planned to take, but if enough people support the project, it will allow me to:

• Secure proper licensing
• Upgrade to faster and larger hosting infrastructure
• Add more of the archive online
• Develop new features for users
• Ensure the collection remains available for years to come

I've also been spending time improving the site's visibility in search engines. You may have noticed that recent mix and artist pages now include detailed descriptions and additional information. This not only makes pages more useful for visitors but has already resulted in a noticeable increase in traffic.

The next few months are going to be exciting. The goal is to make the site faster, more feature-rich, fully licensed, and ultimately the best archive it can be.
