I wanted to record a video for all my Khmer brothers and sisters on the occasion of January 7th, but it took me so long to record it that night fell before I finished.
I’m still practicing reading and pronunciation in Khmer, so please excuse me if my pronunciation isn’t perfect yet. I promise I’ll keep improving.
In Battambang, I tried something that goes far beyond curiosity or cultural shock.
I tasted a part of history, resilience, and the dignity of the Khmer people.
This barbecue is not “exotic” food — it is memory.
In the hardest moments of Cambodia’s history, when there was almost nothing, this was survival.
Today, I try it with respect, gratitude, and the responsibility of telling the story the way it deserves to be told.
Thank you, Cambodia, for opening your doors to me, for teaching me your culture, and for reminding me that the strength of a people lives in their ability to endure, adapt, and move forward with pride. 🇰🇭🙏🏽
