This online study day aims to explore the intersection of
Reception and Revival: the reception of ancient Egypt and Religion. The day will begin with introductory presentation from ISSE Co-Chair “Global Histories of ‘Egyptomania’”
Michelle Keeley-Adamson, followed by a keynote talk
from Dr Judit Blair. Attendees will then hear from a
number of scholars researching this topic, who will share
15-20 minute presentations that provide an overview of an
area of their ongoing research relating to religious practice
and theory, from early Christianity to modern day
witchcraft and magical practices.
Discussing the intersection between the reception of
ancient Egypt and religion signals an interdisciplinary
approach to research. Participants will benefit from
learning about postsecular research during this event.
After the Q&A, this event will conclude with a workshop
style discussion where speakers and guests can share
thoughts on the importance of this area of reception
studies, along with the opportunity to share best practice
and research tips.
