Some of the records that have been on our turntables recently as we get our bags ready for some gigs around Cork City this weekend...

1) Faux Love 2- Be With You (Faux Love 2010)

 From "Jisco Music," now known as "Under The Shade," who is well known for releasing songs by Mark E and The Revenge, comes the second release from the mysterious disco edit label "Faux Love," whose editor is still unknown! ...such a peak time record!!

2) LELLO DI FRANCO Edits Collection #2 ( Edits Collection Italy 2023)

 This second collection of edits from Italy's matter-of-fact Edits Collection label offers another quarter of superbly feel-good disco sounds. 'Slow Luv' has lush strings and plenty of Philly vibes, while 'Stranger Beat' layers up the jumbled percussion, sliding hi-hats and funky bass. Flip it over for 'Xpress Yourself' which is sure to weave its way into your soul with its hip-shaking groove and more funky bass frets than you know what to do with sprinkled with lush strings and plenty of Philly vibes and drum focused sound for amping up those energy levels on the floor.

4) The New Birth - Deeper (Mike Maurro Remixes) (Brookside 2016)

The original was released in '77 as a single on promo 12" this cut gets the MM mix treatment, with the intro extended and the drums brought fully upfront in the mix Mike has teased out all the best parts of the original arrangement while managing to stamp his always unique style on this new version. This midtempo groover is pure Soul all the way, one for the serious dancers that keeps rolling itself along into one of the most solid, funkiest grooves ever! 5) Castera ft Just Blaze - Most High (Bridge Boots 2024)

Reverend Just Blaze comes with an uplifting sermon in his legendary vocal rasp over a bed of triumphant horns, flutes, vibes and strings. Let’s be honest who couldn’t use some ‘triumph’ these days?
