I submitted this painting ‘Tide Held’ to the open call by .gallery and themed Carrying the Songs, a poem written by Irish poet Moya Cannon.

In brief my painting was a direct response to her poem that reflects on how music and memory travel through generations, carrying the resilience, loss, and spirit of displaced people address time and place.

The exhibition will be held at the Pulchri Studio Gallery, The Hague, Netherlands from July 4th to July 26th.

Some small soft pastel studies in my new little cotton rag sketchbook. I’m trying to keep this one clean! I love how immediate small pastel studies feel, no overthinking, just getting something down and letting it be. Pastels seem to quieten the noise for me. They’re like small conversations that don’t need repeating in bigger paintings. When I get stuck going in circles on a painting, coming back to this scale helps me reset a bit. Takes the pressure off and lets me find my way again. 🌺🌱🦋
