Athenry Castle

At Athenry Castle we regularly receive medievalists from all over the world. We recently met a French couple who create amazing small sized models of models of famous people of the past. Eric Leducq crafted this model of Saladin who was a famous Kurdish Muslim Sultan of Egypt and Syria during the 12th century crusades.
These conceptual models allow creators to manipulate time, challenge official historical narratives, and invite historians to engage with history as an active, immersive experience.
Eric uses acrylic paints. A particular favourite is the Vallejo brand and Winsor & Newton brushes, especially the Series 7. The material is often resin, but he also enjoys painting on tinplate figurines, which are rarer to find.
