One of the more poetic contrasts occurs between the first-floor living area, where low ceilings inherited from the original structure create a warm, intimate environment, and the second-floor living room, where higher ceilings amplify a sense of grandeur and openness, perfect for gathering.

XYZ House

While grounded in the functional needs of Gen X living, the design is far from conventional. The client’s taste leans toward modern and contemporary aesthetics, with a refined sense of luxury—expressed not through excess, but through spatial proportions, rich natural materials like marble and travertine, and a curated interior palette of loose furnishings.

The ground floor is articulated with solid black walls, softened by lush greenery from planters above. The landscape is rooted in low-maintenance yellow-blooming plantings like Arachis pintoi, Lantana, and accentuated by striking Tabebuia trees. This strong base acts as a unifying element between the two houses—anchoring them with continuity while allowing their contrasting characters to stand independently above. The second level steps back, creating depth and shadow, and features a continuous line of planters that doubles as a canopy over the carport below.

LVM

Designed with a strong horizontal language, the houses sit confidently along the streetscape. Deep overhangs and recessed planes create layered shadows that shift with the sun. The darker base anchors the structure, while the lighter upper volume feels almost suspended above. A careful balance of solidity and openness defines the overall presence. The material palette is deliberate and timeless: textured neutral plaster, charcoal-toned volumes, and refined black detailing. These elements create contrast without noise—quiet luxury expressed through proportion rather than ornament.
