🌟 Empowered to Thrive: Mana Evelita’s Story of Determination🌟

Meet Mana Evelita, a resilient young woman from Covalima, who has overcome incredible challenges to support her family and achieve her dreams.
At just 7 years old, Mana Evelita became a person with disabilities. Life became even harder when her father passed away, leaving her family without a provider. But Mana Evelita refused to give up. 💪

In 2020, she started hand-sewing clothes to earn a living. By 2021, she saved enough to buy a sewing machine, expanding her tailoring business. Despite fierce competition, Mana Evelita adapted by opening a small kiosk.

Her turning point came in 2024 when she joined the Area Matak Integradu (AMI) project, funded by the Government of New Zealand and implemented by World Vision Timor-Leste. Through business training and support from her Savings for Transformation (S4T) group, Mana Evelita gained the skills and confidence to grow her kiosk, tailoring and second-hand clothes business further.

Today, Mana Evelita is thriving and dreams of expanding her tailoring business to empower other women like her. 🌟 “World Vision’s training changed my life. I now have the strength and confidence to achieve my dreams,” she says.

Mana Evelita’s story shows how resilience, community support, and access to opportunities can transform lives. 🌱

Marelia, 35, and her husband José, 33, live in Baucau with their three children. Like many mothers, Marelia once followed traditional practices, unaware of the risks of introducing solid foods too early or the critical role of breastfeeding.

"I used to believe we should feed babies solid food at three months because they seemed hungry or in discomfort," she shared. "I didn’t realize this could harm their growth and development."
Everything changed when Marelia joined the Parents' Club under the Better Food, Better Health (BFBH) project, implemented by World Vision Timor-Leste, and funded by the Australian Government through the 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐆𝐎 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 (𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐏).

Through the club's sessions, facilitated by PSF trainers, Marelia learned the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and proper nutrition. "I breastfed my son, Jolanio, from birth and introduced solid foods only at six months, as recommended," she explained.
She also embraced the concept of the three food groups to ensure her children receive balanced, age-appropriate nutrition. "Now, my son’s weight increases every month, and he is much healthier and more active than his siblings were at his age."

Grateful for the program, Marelia concluded, "What I’ve learned has changed my family’s life. Thank you, BFBH, for helping us build a healthier future for our children."
