Sangeh Monkey Forest is a nature reserve and is best known for its monkey ‘tribes’. The gray macaques that inhabit the nutmeg forest each have a ring leader. And for the whole, there is 1 highest ruler or ‘king’ living in the largest area, where you can find Bukit Sari Temple, a sanctified temple dating back to the 17th century.

The Kecak Dance, one of Bali’s most iconic performances, was developed in the 1930s by Balinese artist Wayan Limbak in collaboration with Walter Spies, a German painter and musician. Inspired by the sacred Sanghyang dance, which is performed to ward off negative spirits, they adapted the ritual into a dramatic storytelling dance based on the Ramayana epic.
