Galungan Day is one of Bali’s most important Hindu religious celebrations. It marks the victory of Dharma (good) over Adharma (evil) and is celebrated every 210 days according to the Balinese Pawukon calendar.

🌺 What Happens on Galungan?

The gods and ancestral spirits are believed to visit Earth.

Balinese families make offerings, pray, and welcome these ancestral spirits into their homes and temples.

Streets become decorated with tall, graceful penjor—bamboo poles with offerings symbolizing prosperity and gratitude.

People dress in traditional clothing and visit temples throughout the day.

🗓 When Is It Celebrated?

Galungan always falls on a Wednesday (called Buda Kliwon in the Wuku Dungulan week).
It is followed 10 days later by Kuningan Day, when the visiting spirits return to heaven.
