I get asked this everyday! Trust me when I say this. Indonesian isnt too difficult to learn once you master some basics. Balinese on the other hand is very difficult and isn’t spoken widely except in Bali. So why limit yourself to only one language that is a minority amongst a nation full of languages.
This was one of the problems when becoming a nation faced by Indonesians. What lanague to use?? They were thinking of using Javanese but that also is complexed with many layers. So a form of Malay was selected due to its simplicity of learning and teaching. But for visitors just coming to holiday in Bali…. Just learn Indo!
