Back in 1987, Starbucks was struggling and its founders decided to sell for $3.8 million. Howard Schultz, who had left to start his own coffee shop, wanted to buy it back and was given 60 days to raise the cash.
Midway through, a powerful Seattle investor swooped in with a $4 million offer, threatening to kill Schultz’s deal. Desperate, Schultz turned to a lawyer friend, who told him to talk to Bill Gates Sr.

Schultz says it was the turning point that made Starbucks what it is today, crediting Gates Sr. as the man who saved his dream.

The Wizard of Lies (2017) tells the story of Bernie Madoff, the man behind the largest Ponzi scheme in history. For decades, he fooled investors, ran a multibillion-dollar fraud, and destroyed countless lives—including his own family’s—before it all came crashing down.
Robert De Niro nails the role, bringing Madoff’s chilling calm to life. The film digs into the cracks of the financial system and shows just how long deception can hide in plain sight. Easily one of the best finance movies ever made.
