Major moments of urbanisation in Budapest in the 19th century.

🔹Although Buda had already played an important role in the Middle Ages, and the stages of the urbanisation process (the formation of guilds, the growth of immigrants from the countryside and the increase in the number of city dwellers) were present in the city until the beginning of the modern era, it was in the 19th century that we can first speak of a more intensive urbanisation process.

🔹The main reason for this may be the first industrial revolution and the Hungarian nobility's cultural revival, since it was at this time that the nobility began to support the strengthening and development of Hungarian culture. The Hungarian language was introduced as a subject in schools and the town had already started to use steam engines.

🔹Agricultural processing factories appeared, along with machinery manufacturing companies, and more and more people began to move into the town, creating a working class.

🔹There seemed to be a growing bourgeoisie, as well as a layer of workers who worked in the factories and factories. This is why this phase of industrialisation can be considered the first major urbanisation point of Budapest.

🔹The city's development was further enhanced by the inauguration of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in 1849, which connected Buda and Pest, and from then on we can talk about Budapest.

The Budapest Parliamen🇭🇺

The Parliament House, or Parliament as it is known to the Hungarian common people, is one of the most famous public buildings in Budapest. It is the seat of the Hungarian Parliament and some of its institutions (such as the Parliamentary Library).
It is located in the 5th district of Budapest, on the left bank of the Danube, on Kossuth Lajos Square.

The building was originally designed for a bicameral Parliament and is therefore completely symmetrical. It is interesting to note that the upper house is located to the north and the lower house to the south, and that the floor carpet in the lounge of the lower house is red, while the upper house is blue. The reason for this is that the upper house was originally occupied by noblemen, i.e. blue-bloods.

The parliament was designed by Imre Steindl and is a neoclassical building.

It was a condition of construction that the building's components should be made of only domestic materials (the exception being the marble monoliths by the main staircase).

Since 2000, it has housed the Holy Crown and other coronation insignia.
