1959 Mercedes-Benz O 319 Minibus Custom

Mercedes-Benz introduced the O 319 minibus in 1955 as part of its post-war expansion into light commercial vehicles. Prior to their 1926 merger, both Daimler and Benz had produced trucks, and by 1932 Mercedes-Benz had developed its first diesel-powered light truck.

The O 319 shared its platform with the L 319 light truck and featured a front-engine layout with a forward-control cab design. This configuration positioned the driver above or slightly ahead of the front axle, maximizing interior space. Its large windows and clean, functional styling made it instantly recognizable among European commercial vehicles of the era.

These minibuses were used across Europe for a wide range of purposes, from passenger transport to commercial and service applications. The forward-control layout provided a surprisingly roomy interior despite the compact overall size.

The O 319 marked a key step in Mercedes-Benz’s evolution as a builder of versatile and durable buses, laying the groundwork for future generations of Mercedes vans and minibuses.
