A value fényességet, világosságot jelent, melyet a zománc vastagsága és minősége határoz meg.
Zománc esetén 3 típust különböztetünk meg a fényesség tekintetében:
-magas value a fiatal zománcra jellemző,
-közepes value-val a középkorú zománc rendelkezik,
-alacsony value értéke van az érett zománcnak

A fogzománc felelős a fog opaleszenciajáért, foleg a transzlucens karaktere miatt. A rajtuk áthaladó rövid hullámhosszok a kék színnek felelnek meg, ezért látjuk kékes-szürkének a zománc áttetsző részeit. A frontfogak éli részén a legkifejezettebbek.


Tooth enamel is responsible for the opalescence of the tooth, mainly due to its translucent character. The short wavelengths passing through them correspond to the color blue, so we see the translucent parts of the enamel as bluish-gray. They are most pronounced on the edge of the front teeth.
