This week, we mourn the loss of Daniel Ole Sambu of the Big Life Foundation, a towering legend of conservation in Africa. His work made a lasting impact on the way we view wildlife conservation and the communities we strive to protect.

Daniel traveled to Hong Kong for our Elephant Weeks for many years, bringing invaluable insights into life on the front lines of protecting wildlife. He shared his experiences with us, deepening our understanding of the illegal wildlife trade and fostering a growing enthusiasm among youth to protect the environment we share with wildlife.

His contributions to conservation and his dedication to educating others will be sorely missed by all who knew him and by the many thousands whose lives he touched. The Elephant Foundation extends our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues, and we wish them strength as they navigate this difficult time. We hope that Daniel’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations in the fight for wildlife conservation.
