The 2022 revision organized the controls into four main themes:

Organizational Controls (37 controls): Policies and procedures such as information security policies, asset management, supplier relationships, information classification, and incident management.

Technological Controls (34 controls): Security measures including authentication, encryption, network security, and secure development.

Physical Controls (13 controls): Protection of physical sites, security monitoring, and equipment security.

People Controls (8 controls): Background checks, remote working, and user awareness training.
