QUEEN'S COLLEGE CONTINUES TO CELEBRATE THE INDEPENDENCE VILLAGE, IN HONOUR OF GUYANA'S 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Following the exhibitions, the school hosted a modeling competition for the titles of Mr. and Ms. Independence. Contestants wore costumes inspired by their assigned regions and were judged on their clothing, presentation, and cultural representation. The competition concluded with Javier Mendonca and Katelyn Norton of Cunningham House winning the titles of Mr. and Ms. Independence.
At the conclusion of the event, Austin House placed first overall, followed by D’urban House in second place and Moulder House in third. The celebration was widely considered a success, as it highlighted Guyana’s cultural diversity while allowing students to creatively represent the country’s ten regions and culture.
As Guyana commemorates sixty years of independence, the college community extends best wishes to all Guyanese for a happy Independence anniversary and continued prosperity in the years ahead.

CHERISHED LAMBS NURSERY DIVISION VISITS QUEEN’S COLLEGE’S AGRICULTURAL PLOT AS PART OF AN EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP
On Monday, May 4, 2026, the nursery division of the Cherished Lambs School visited the college's agricultural plot as part of an educational field trip.
At around 10:30 hours, the first batch of about fifty students, accompanied by their teachers, arrived overflowing with curiosity and excitement. The Agricultural Science Head of Department, Ms Morian, held a briefing on the session’s activities, which allowed the budding enthusiasts to get up to speed. Following this, Ms Morian, along with teachers of the Agriculture Science Department, Mr. Moore and Miss McIntosh, guided the students to the plot where Grade Eight and Nine presenters awaited.
The group was divided into smaller groups to make movement around the plot easier. Each group was assigned to two (2) Queen’s College presenters who were well-affiliated with their assigned aspect of the space. The young explorers were utterly fascinated not only by the aquaponic pond with red-tail tilapias and the broiler chicks, but also by the sprouting seedlings of celery, pak-choi and more in the shadehouse. In addition, the students were given the opportunity to participate in agricultural practices, such as watering the crops and picking small weeds from the soil surface.
After touring the facilities, the students were escorted to the shed, where they were given an engaging activity page specifically themed for Agricultural Science. Subsequently, the second batch of students was welcomed into the school, after which they were given the same exciting experience as their peers.
Finally, the visiting school was presented with a certificate from the Queen’s College Agricultural Science Department in recognition of being the first nursery school to tour the college’s agricultural plot.
Queen’s College would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the teachers of the Cherished Lamb School, as well as to our Agricultural Science Department for accommodating this thrilling experience.
