The installation of bucket seats at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall is set to get underway within a matter of weeks, according to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr.

The ultimate goal is to have the new seating fully operational in time for the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation Men’s Championship, which tips off from July 8-12.

However, the Minister is adamant that quality will not be sacrificed for speed. The overhaul will see individual bucket seats blanket the existing bleachers on both the east and west sides of the court.

The upgrade is part of a broader push to modernise Guyana's sporting infrastructure as the nation becomes an increasingly popular hub for regional events.

Minister Ramson Jr. made the remarks during a recent visit to the newly constructed Anna Regina National Stadium, where the training squad was using for sessions.

The team is undergoing rigorous preparation ahead of the upcoming Regional 50-over tournament, scheduled to take place in Antigua from July 7-23.

Speaking directly to the youngsters during their session, Ramson Jr. emphasised that talent alone isn't enough to guarantee success at the regional level, stressing the importance of repetitive, purposeful practice.

Highlighting a milestone for domestic capacity building, the Ministry of Natural Resources on Tuesday celebrated a major breakthrough in local content development within Guyana's oil and gas sector. Local Guyanese companies have successfully taken the lead on specialized fabrication works for critical offshore infrastructure, demonstrating the growing technical capability of the domestic workforce.

Delivering the feature remarks was Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, where he reiterated the government's steadfast commitment to expanding local content. Minister Bharrat emphasized that the strict focus on local utilization has significantly benefited not only the energy sector but has successfully driven cross-cutting growth and technical advancement across all economic sectors in Guyana.

The achievement was marked during the Friedlander Piping Fabrication Ceremony at the Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) Annex. Hosted by ExxonMobil Guyana under its Brownfield Projects initiative, the event celebrated key deliverables achieved for the Water Injection Riser Depressurization (WIRD) Project. The technical scope of the WIRD project entails the precise fabrication of pipe sections for the water injection systems utilized on SBM Offshore Guyana’s Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels.

The team's management will be led by Head Coach Kumar Bishundial, alongside assistant coach and active national cricketer Antony Adams and long-standing manager Nazeer Mohamed.
