Cultural immersion is at the heart of every GPSA experience.

Students from The Bishop Strachan School (Toronto) explored the richness of Belize through hands-on experiences that connected history, environment, and local traditions.

From climbing the ancient temples of Xunantunich, to learning about wildlife conservation at the Green Iguana Conservation Project and the Belize Raptor Center, students gained a deeper appreciation for Belize’s biodiversity and cultural heritage.
They also experienced the flavors and traditions of the region through a visit to Ajaw Chocolate & Crafts, where they learned the traditional process of chocolate making, and at Oxmul Coffee Farm, where they explored local coffee production and sustainable farming practices.

These moments go beyond sightseeing, they create meaningful connections, cultural understanding, and lifelong memories.

"Care to immerse yourself in the culture of Guatemala? Your Spanish learning journey lies here. Cooking, teaching, interning…all belongs here, in the beauty of Quetzaltenango (Xela and Cajolá), Guatemala.
Stay with the most natural, authentic and beautiful people in Central America. Escape from reality, and experience their new way of life.”

These words capture exactly what our DC International School students are experiencing right now.
Through partnership with they’re not just learning Spanish—they’re learning what it means to be culturally competent healthcare professionals. They’re teaching elementary students, cooking with host families, navigating a new language, and discovering that healing transcends borders.
Every conversation in Spanish. Every lesson taught to eager young students. Every shared meal with their host families. Every moment of discomfort that transforms into growth. This is what builds the healthcare leaders our world needs.

We are beyond proud of our DC HOSA members for embracing this challenge with open hearts and minds.

Health education is prevention, empowerment, and community care 🏫💙

During their Medical Volunteer Service program in Belize, students from Miami Valley School (Ohio) partnered with local schools in San Antonio to support health education initiatives focused on awareness, prevention, and healthy daily practices.
Through interactive sessions, students engaged with younger learners in age-appropriate conversations about health, creating spaces for learning, curiosity, and mutual exchange.
These moments remind us that sustainable impact starts early, and that education is one of the most powerful tools in global health.
