Today in 1957, The Queen of Canada & Prince Philip stood under the Peace Tower following Her Majesty’s Speech from the Throne, officially opening a new session of Canada’s Parliament.

Today in 1951, Toronto’s streets are lined as well wishers welcome Princess Elizabeth & Prince Philip on their first Royal Visit to Canada. The five-week tour took the couple across the country just 4-months before she became Canada’s Queen.

Ontario’s official motto is “Loyal she began, loyal she remains” refers to Ontario’s Loyalist settlers. Many of the American colonists who remained loyal to the Crown during the American Revolution relocated to Ontario, then Upper Canada.

In 1858, to avoid confusion with Colombia in South America & New Caledonia in the Pacific, Queen Victoria joined the Hudson Bay Company’s districts of Columbia & New Caledonia together & named the colony, “British Columbia”.
