"In Line"
Renovation of a Stone House in Drosia, Athens
This project concerns the transformation of a stone-built residence in Drosia, a northern suburb of Athens. Originally constructed in the late 1950s, the house has undergone various extensions over the decades—the most recent being a concrete addition at the rear of the plot in the mid-1980s. These layered interventions resulted in a fragmented interior with dark, disconnected spaces spread across different levels.
The design proposal seeks to reimagine the house as a contemporary, light-filled home suited to the needs of a bachelor or a small family. The central design gesture is the introduction of a linear, multifunctional wooden element that runs along the east–west axis of the property. This spine accommodates key domestic functions—dining, cooking, storage, appliances, and a modern fireplace—organizing the public areas of the home around it and establishing a new spatial clarity. This idea gives rise to the concept: In Line.
The private areas—two bedrooms and a bathroom—are preserved within the southern wing of the original stone structure, which remains structurally untouched. These spaces will be fully refurbished with contemporary finishes and fixtures.
Externally, the house will be upgraded with proper thermal insulation and fitted with high-performance openings, enhancing both energy efficiency and comfort while maintaining the integrity of the existing shell.

XS (Extra Small)
A new compact house in the Nea Ionia district, Athens, Greece.
This project focuses on the design of a very small residence in Nea Ionia, Athens. Located in a neighborhood historically known as the “προσφυγικά” (refugee housing), the corner plot of roughly 90 m² will host a new contemporary home tailored to the needs of a young bachelor or couple.
In harmony with the surrounding low-rise buildings, the house unfolds across two levels (ground and first floor) and has a total area of just 80 m². Complementing the interior spaces are a garage and a garden on the ground floor, as well as a roof terrace offering additional outdoor living.
The building is designed as a steel structure, insulated with an external thermal façade system. Its architecture reinterprets the key elements of Athenian modernism in a contemporary and sustainable manner.

"Around a Box"

Nestled within the bustling heart of Athens, stood a small apartment house reminiscent of the 1970s architectural ethos. Within this edifice lay an apartment, distinguished not by its age but by its commanding view of Mount Lycabettus. Yet, behind this majestic backdrop, the apartment grappled with challenges – a dysfunctional layout, inadequate illumination, and a solitary bathroom that belied the demands of contemporary living.
When the owners approached the renovation, their aspirations
were seemingly modest: design a singular piece of furniture to
camouflage the Livingroom’s skewed walls while accommodating books and a television. However, from this simple request
emerged an innovative solution: a wooden box, a marvel of multifunctionality.
The transformation was significant. Walls that once compartmentalized spaces were razed, paving the way for an open-concept
design centered around a wooden monolith. Within its confines,
the box seamlessly integrated diverse functionalities – from a bath
- room and WC to a compact wardrobe, a sleek desk, expansive
bookshelves, a dedicated TV corner, and even the essentials of a
modern kitchen.
This singular intervention redefined the apartment’s spatial narrative. The design fostered a fluid, circular movement around the
wooden box, creating an intuitive flow between spaces. Furthermore, by uniting various functionalities within this central element, the renovation maximized space efficiency, ensuring every square meter resonated with purpose and elegance.
Moreover, the introduction of this multifunctional core enhanced
natural illumination by amplifying the influx of daylight. The result
was a harmonious interplay of light and shadow, accentuating the
apartment’s renewed vitality.
In essence, “Around a Box” transcended its titular reference. It
wasn’t merely about a piece of furniture; it symbolized a holistic
approach to design, where innovation met functionality, tradition
intertwined with modernity, and every element harmoniously coexisted within the vibrant tapestry of Athenian living.
